Mk 12:35-37 As Jesus was teaching in the temple area he said, “How do the scribes claim that the Christ is the son of David? David himself, inspired by the Holy Spirit, said: The Lord said to my lord,‘ Sit at my right hand until I place your enemies under your feet.’ David himself calls him ‘lord’; so how is he his son?” The great crowd heard this with delight. Just before this reading there is the lesson of love, to love God and neighbor. This reading declares Christ is Lord and son of David. David is not lord, but Christ is Lord. I interpret this in the context of a culture that made rulers gods and that Jesus is saying that no ruler is God but obedient to God as David has learned with the help of the Holy Spirit. Position and status mean nothng being at one with God is the great call. The logic of Jesus defines a place for God for the term Lord rather than for kings or rulers. Today in the midst of three different meetings which will occupy the greater part of my day I will make sure there is time midday for private prayer and "sitting with" God.
