Sister Joan Irene
Lector Today
Usually at the monastery, on thursdays, I am signed up as the lector. I have loved the role of lector from the first time that I was allowed to read at the University chapel and my home parish, Blessed Sacrament in Paterson.
Somehow the reading takes on a new life for me and reveals more often when I am the lector. The reading this morning is from the 1 John 2: 12-17. "Do not love the world or the things of the world"
I see the reading as being very simple and straight foward. An admonition to be faithful to God first in all things. From knowing God, we will see what is evil and reject what is only a passing desire of the material, the trivial, the fickle, self centered worldly part of our existence.
