Mk 4:21-25 Jesus said to his disciples,“Is a lamp brought in to be placed under a bushel basket or under a bed, and not to be placed on a lampstand? For there is nothing hidden except to be made visible; nothing is secret except to come to light. Anyone who has ears to hear ought to hear.” He also told them, “Take care what you hear. The measure with which you measure will be measured out to you, and still more will be given to you. To the one who has, more will be given; from the one who has not, even what he has will be taken away.”
The gifts which we are given are meant to be shared. Those who receive a sharing from another need to have open ears, open eyes, open hearts and minds. The more that we give, the more we will receive. There is a generous heart that to me is the one who has and will be given more and the stingy or miserly heart is the one who has not is living a loveless life and that person will lose more. I like what Archbishop Desmond Tutu said in Tampa at USF last thursday when I heard him. We are made to be incomplete and complete each other. A person is not a person until they are a person to another person. To be self sufficient is to be subhuman. I think this sharing is holding the light up rather than hiding it under a basket. All of the bounties of life are meant to be shared. I can not always see when I am missing this important part of the Gospel life. I pray for today for greater awareness of what I need to share with others today.
