Sister Joan Irene: Begin to Blog

Sister Joan Irene: Begin to Blog

Today's reading from the Rule of St Benedict is from Chapter 69. A monk is to never presume to defend another monk even if they are blood relatives. I imagine the world has done alot of damage in the name of defending someone else. I have to think that there are times to defend others but as a monk in community there are safeguards for those who have special needs.

Begin to Blog

I have decided to blog as a part of my spiritual journey. I am a Benedictine Sister. I am in formation which means in my case, I am a scholastic and have taken first vows but not yet final vows.

I live in St Leo Florida and the Sisters in our community here live for the most part right here for life with the exception of special circumstances. That is part of our Benedictine vow of stablity.

The liturgies that we celebrated for the Advent Season, Christmas and then the Holy Family yesterday were beautiful and I felt blessed to be here. Many of our 25 Sisters have musical talent with vocals and instruments and some write and arrange music.

I am thinking that perhaps a regular reflection on a reading from the Rule of St. Benedict and one from the Bible might provide for a basis of discussion from others...I am not too sure how this will go but it is worth a try. Any responses, questions and comments will be most welcome.
