On Eagle's Wings Ex 19:2-6a

In those days, the Israelites came to the desert of Sinai and pitched camp. While Israel was encamped here in front of the mountain, Moses went up the mountain to God. Then the LORD called to him and said, "Thus shall you say to the house of Jacob; tell the Israelites: You have seen for yourselves how I treated the Egyptians and how I bore you up on eagle wings and brought you here to myself. Therefore, if you hearken to my voice and keep my covenant, you shall be my special possession, dearer to me than all other people, though all the earth is mine.
You shall be to me a kingdom of priests, a holy nation."

"I bore you up on eagle wings and brought you here to myself."
I was saved from the slavery of self deception. I was brought away from opression. God has been good to me. I was lost and wandering in a wasteland of confusion and misdirected good intentions. God brought me close and I have had the sense and image of resting under the right wing of a great and powerful warm and loving creature/creator who is a mighty refuge.

The presence of God is an awesome experience that defies any expression. It is no wonder that the Hebrews refuse to write out the word for God and the Muslims refuse to show images of God. The spirit in the presence of God is lifted up and soars like an eagle. There is a sense of the heart being lifted up.

There is an eagle that has a nest not far from the monastery. Our paths do not cross often but each time that they do, my heart is touched in a special way and I feel happy to be alive. It is a gift that tells me there is a God when I see this magnificent bird soaring high above me and my home. The vision of the eagle is legendary. An eagle's eye view reveals more of the earth than I can see from the ground.
