The Rule of St Benedict Today Today's reading is chapter 71. The monk is to be obedient to the Abbot/Abbess and other monks in order to be obedient to God. Stubborn ways are to be left behind.

I can see that the first tendency I have is to think that my way is the right way to do things. When I am humble and obedient, my mind becomes open to the many ways that can often be better than the one way that had occured to me on my own.

Today I will concentrate on really listening to what others are saying to me. At the end of the day, I will review if there was anyone who I encountered that I did not truly pay an open audience to. Daily routines can make it easy to shut out certain people or not truly hear their messages.
