May 29 2006 Memotial Day

Jn 16:29-33 The disciples said to Jesus, “Now you are talking plainly, and not in any figure of speech. Now we realize that you know everything and that you do not need to have anyone question you. Because of this we believe that you came from God.” Jesus answered them, “Do you believe now? Behold, the hour is coming and has arrived when each of you will be scattered to his own home and you will leave me alone. But I am not alone, because the Father is with me. I have told you this so that you might have peace in me. In the world you will have trouble, but take courage, I have conquered the world.”

There is a clarity of vision and wisdom that comes with true belief in God. Believers will have trouble in this world but Jesus has conquered this world. To live in Christ is to have peace, a peace that the world alone does not bring. I believe that all that I need comes from God and if I continue to walk the path of life in the light of Christ all that I need will be given there is no greater love than that of God and through the love of God love of humankind. The early Christian greeting continues today in "The Way" the believers greet each other with love and say "Peace be with you." There is an old common saying that love conquers all. I belive that is the way of Christ.

Today I am thinking about the observed Memorial Day. It is a sorrow to remember the men and women who have made incredible sacrifices and been killed or injured while soldiers for our country. There was a young woman interviewed last night who had an explosion and part of her skull temporarily removed. She was in a coma for weeks and later had to relearn how to think and how to walk. She wants to become a social worker to help other injured veterans recover. She smiled even though she is still in pain. I believe her name is Jessica. I pray today for her and those like her that God may continue to get them the love and support they need. I pray that this young women may continued to be blessed with the special graces that she has.
