Lk 8:19-21
The mother of Jesus and his brothers came to him but were unable to join him because of the crowd. He was told, “Your mother and your brothers are standing outside and they wish to see you.” He said to them in reply, “My mother and my brothers are those who hear the word of God and act on it.”
The people were all treated as mother and brother who heard the word of God and acted on it. Jesus did not show any favoritism to his own mother and brothers. This reading brings to mind the way of the Religious life. We in our love of God become brothers and sisters to those who were not in our natural family.

Religious no longer live with their natural family but those in the community dedicated to the way of God and the word. Some may think it is harsh to leave natural family members but it is a full dedication to following the ways and word of God. I am praying today for my natural family members. I pray for their comfort and guidance from God and their protection from God today as we begin this day.
