Light

Let Your Light Shine Mt 5:13-16
Jesus said to his disciples: "You are the salt of the earth. But if salt loses its taste, with what can it be seasoned? It is no longer good for anything
but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot. You are the light of the world. A city set on a mountain cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and then put it under a bushel basket; it is set on a lampstand,
where it gives light to all in the house. Just so, your light must shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your heavenly Father."
For me faith is empty without works and work is empty without faith. St Benedict said that prayer is work and work is prayer, "ora et labora." When looked at in Latin the word for prayer "ora" is a core part
of the word for work "labora". Without the prayer the work is meaningless.

What is the purpose of having gifts from God if they do not shine through sharing with the world? The most precious gift of self is continued daily. We can give out of love and shine for the world or store up our treasures for a time that might never come into being. Now is the time. The kingdom of heaven is at hand in every moment lived totally in the present with a heart open to God.

I have to remember to not hold back or hold on to self will but give whole heartedly open handed to the glory of the moment and praise of the goodness of life and being. Happiness and joy in the life in the presence of Christ will shine without words for all to see. God give me the strength to be steadfast and unswerving in devotion and life in the way of the Gospel.
