Lk 9:7-9
Herod the tetrarch heard about all that was happening, and he was greatly perplexed because some were saying, “John has been raised from the dead”; others were saying, “Elijah has appeared”; still others, “One of the ancient prophets has arisen.” But Herod said, “John I beheaded. Who then is this about whom I hear such things?” And he kept trying to see him.
Herod was troubled by the news of Jesus. I think that Herod was worried that the great wrong that he had done to John the Prophet would be avenged. The people were saying that John the Baptist had been raised from the dead. John prepared the way for Jesus. Now at the beginning of the ministry of Jesus, in this passage the people saying that John was raised from the dead is a foretelling of the resurrection of Jesus from the dead. The Scriptures foretell and retell the story of salvation of a people. I in living the Word daily experience and reexperience my own personal salvation by accepting God and the Word and Way in my life each day. I pray this morning for an open and accepting heart in all that I do today.
